Construction process of colored and patterned floors in concrete: Hardener
The application of the hardener is carried out once the concrete reaches the plastic state and the excess water has disappeared from the surface.
For most colors and normal service areas approximately 4kg/m2 of hardener is used. Light colors and high traffic areas may require higher amounts, but never more than 6kg/m2. To spread the material on the surface, the technique of spraying by hand is used using a rubber glove and a filtering mask for protection.
The hardener is then left to rest on the surface for a few minutes; this will allow moisture from the concrete surface to wet the powder. In a first application, approximately 2 kg/m2 are used and then the rest of the material is used until a uniform distribution is achieved throughout the surface.
After each application, a wooden trowel is passed rubbing the surface, taking care to maintain consistency in the smoothing and avoiding rubbing too hard, in order to obtain a uniform color. Excessive rubbing can discolor concrete.
No water should be added to the concrete surface during this process, as all the water needed comes from the concrete mass.
